To mark the 100th anniversary of the cinematic landmark Metropolis, we are inviting artists around the world to contribute to a very special crowdsourced soundtrack – one with more than 1,000 different combinations.

A visionary cinematic work from 1927 meets the composition and sound design techniques of 2027.

This will be the first ever crowdsourced soundtrack for Metropolis, and through randomised combinations we will present a total of 1,296 possible soundtracks to this iconic film.

The project will launch on 10 January 2027, the 100th anniversary of the film’s world premiere in Berlin, with special premiere screenings in December 2026.

There are 72 spaces available on the project across two soundtracks, and applications are open now until 1 June  you can take part by filling in this form (which should take less than five minutes).

Applications are open to artists and musicians anywhere in the world  you don’t need to have done soundtrack work before to take part in the project.
