Caillagh is the first opera written in the Manx language – yn chied opera Gaelgagh. It is being created as part of Blein ny Gaelgey, the year of the Manx language.

As part of this project, the Talland Quartet are offering a rare opportunity to Isle of Man composers to have their work professionally performed alongside the premiere of CaillaghThe performance will take place in at St German’s Cathedral in Peel on the 25th of September.

This is your chance to have your music performed by these exceptional musicians!

Deadline: 1st July 2026

Eligibility: ​Any composers based on the Isle of Man (including students studying elsewhere) may send in pieces. Composers of any age and level of experience are welcome!

What to send us: Please email a PDF of your score(s) to hello@matthewwarren.info​. You can submit up to three pieces.

The Brief

Pieces should be:

– Between one and three minutes in duration;

– Fully scored for any combination of violin 1, violin 2, viola and cello;

– The original work of the named composers;

– Substantially original rather than arrangements. Any material borrowed from elsewhere must be in the public domain or otherwise within the composer’s rights to use.

Pieces where any unacknowledged AI assistance has been used are not eligible. Where there is acknowledged AI use, pieces may be considered if the use of AI is not thought to compromise the originality of the piece.

The Selection Process

Sadly, we can’t perform all of the pieces you send! The programme will be selected by the Caillagh creative team, based on the quality of work, originality and its suitability whole programme.
