Love Music is recruiting two freelance Artist Practitioners to join the Sing for Wellbeing Schools programme, a two-year teacher development project exploring how inclusive, play-based singing can support wellbeing, belonging and learning in primary schools.

Working across three Edinburgh schools each, the successful candidates will support teachers and pupils in upper primary settings (P4–P7), helping embed singing into everyday classroom practice through mentoring, co-learning and creative facilitation.

Role Overview

  • Deliver inclusive, play-based singing workshops within primary classrooms
  • Support teachers to become confident singing leaders
  • Co-develop songs, games and classroom singing resources
  • Mentor and coach teachers through reflective and collaborative practice
  • Contribute to CPD sessions, planning meetings and community-of-practice activity
  • Support the development of school singing strategies and school-led projects
  • Create accessible and culturally inclusive singing materials
  • Work collaboratively with the wider Love Music artistic and evaluation teams

Artist Practitioners will be assigned to the same three schools throughout the project, building long-term relationships with teachers, pupils and school leaders.

About the Programme

Sing for Wellbeing Schools is delivered in partnership with:

  • Love Music
  • Education Scotland
  • Edinburgh Council
  • Queen Margaret University
  • Eight Edinburgh schools

The programme is supported through the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Teacher Development Fund initiative and aims to explore how sustained classroom singing can support equity, inclusion and wellbeing within schools experiencing systemic disadvantage.

Essential Criteria

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Experience leading singing with upper primary age children
  • Knowledge of inclusive and play-based singing approaches
  • Experience working within or alongside Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence
  • Commitment to anti-racist and inclusive practice
  • Ability to support adult learners with empathy and sensitivity
  • Experience adapting facilitation for varied access needs and disabilities
  • Strong communication, collaboration and reflective practice skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection

Desirable Criteria

Additional experience in the following areas would be beneficial:

  • Classroom teaching or teaching qualifications
  • Western classical notation
  • Body percussion, rap or spoken word
  • Coaching or mentoring practice

Contract Details

  • Freelance fixed-term contract until July 2028
  • 95 days across two years
  • Workshop delivery begins September 2026
  • Work delivered across Edinburgh schools, with additional preparation and remote working from home
  • Travel expenses agreed where necessary

The recruitment process includes:

  • First-stage interview in Edinburgh on 5 June 2026
  • Second-stage practical session in a school on 9 June 2026
