We’re delighted that Open Up Music have joined us as partners in signing up to our Fair Access Principles in February 2022.
Developed through consultation with a broad range of composers and organisations, Sound and Music’s Fair Access Principles are designed to act as a code of best practice for running successful, open and inclusive artist development programmes, competitions and awards for composers.
In signing up, Open Up Music are committing to enact the Fair Access Principles across their work over the next two years. We recognise that organisations will need time to think about and implement changes within their programmes.
You can read their reasons for signing up and future commitments the organisation have made below.
Open Up Music’s Statement
“Diversity, equity and inclusion are at the heart of who we are and what we do. We recognise that systems of privilege, structural disadvantage and barriers to participation are real, profoundly felt and often intersecting.
But we also know that they are not fixed. And we take our responsibility to acknowledge, challenge and dismantle barriers within music and our organisation extremely seriously. To that end, we are proud to adopt the Sound and Music Fair Access Principles and wholeheartedly encourage other organisations to do the same.”
– Barry Farrimond MBE, CEO
