Today we are excited to announce the panel for New Voices 2022. In line with our Fair Access Principles, we want to have an open and transparent selection process, so for the fifth year in a row, we have rotated the external selection panellists to refresh and renew the process.
The panel for New Voices 2022 is Anthony R. Green, Ikonika (Sara Chen), Ruth Lyon, Brìghde Chaimbeul and Shirley Tetteh.
New Voices is our artist development programme that supports composers at pivotal stages of their careers to explore new ideas, new sounds and new music.
The New Voices 2022 panel reflects the breadth of new sound and new music being made in the UK today. Each panellist brings variety of background, taste and experience into the decision-making process and they are excited to listen to your work! You can read more about each of the panellists below.

Ikonika (Sara Chen)
Ikonika [she // her] is one of the most respected names in the UK bass diaspora. Based in London, she is best known for her numerous releases on and affiliation with Hyperdub Records. Ikonika’s most recent EPs on DBA and Night Slugs offer a glimpse of an artist ever in motion, light years away from the post-dubstep landscape where she first made her name.
As a DJ, Andrew Ryce got it about right in a review for Resident Advisor when he said, “She’s a criminally underrated DJ who breezes through whiplash-inducing tempo or style changes. Musically adventurous, expertly mixed, but always in the groove, Ikonika DJ sets are up-to-the-minute journeys of the club space now.”

Brìghde Chaimbeul
As winner of the BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award and youngest ever winner of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award, Scotland’s Brìghde Chaimbeul [she // her] has established herself among the leading experimental purveyors of celtic music.
Brìghde performs on the Scottish smallpipes, a bellows-powered set of bagpipes with a double-note drone. She has devised a completely unique way of arranging for pipe music that emphasises the rich textural drones of the instrument; the constancy of sound that creates a trance-like atmosphere. Her album The Reeling won her major media plaudits and five-star reviews for its fresh reading of traditional Gaelic tunes and outward looking assimilation of influences, played with an enticing virtuosic liquidity.

Tetteh has publishing and record deals with Lucky Number Music and is keen to explore the ways of combining jazz and left-field pop, while forging ahead with bands Nerija and Maisha, who present high-quality original improvised music to a younger, wider audience.
