In Motion is our transformative 18-month artist development programme for original music creators at pivotal points in their careers. We support music creators to design and embark on the next chapter of their creative and professional journey, providing the space, personalised support, funding, networks and skills development to realise their ambitions, culminating in a final creative project for public release.
In this Q&A, we speak to In Motion 2026 creator Amy Bryce, a British composer based in London whose imaginative scores produce music that is strikingly visual or theatrical. Notable commissions include BBC Radio 3, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Stiftung Kunst und Musik für Dresden, the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, and the Royal Philharmonic Society.
Described as ‘producing music in often unexpected, ever-imaginative ways’ by London Youth Choirs, for whom Amy composed the recently Ivors Classical Award-nominated, In Your Hands. Amy’s experiences as a queer artist means she approaches the industry through a lens of rejection and reclaiming, offering instead a sense playfulness and wit.
What role does technology or experimentation play in your composition process?
Someone has started saying ‘let’s test it to destruction’ recently and I’m really enjoying that. Experimentation has always been a big part of what I do.
“I’ve been so lucky to work with so many amazing musicians recently that I’ve forgotten what work ‘for me’ could look like. Let’s see!”
Is there a medium or format you haven’t yet explored but would like to?
Yes, I really want to work with a producer. I think the creative influence of people with a post-production brain have can be extremely important.
What directions or experiments are you excited to explore next?
I’m writing music that only I will be performing for In Motion! I’ve been so lucky to work with so many amazing musicians recently that I’ve forgotten what work ‘for me’ could look like. Let’s see!
What does collaboration mean to you, and how do you approach working with others?
I find it quite difficult actually to make music without collaboration, input, or discussion of any kind. I’m grateful for all of my wonderfully creative friends who constantly turn things over with me, whether they’re involved as a collaborator directly or just being a pal – sometimes it’s both. But no, I can’t do the ‘alone in a dark room’ stuff.

What are you looking forward to most about In Motion?
Creating music in a completely different direction.
