Sound and Music’s Chief Executive, Susanna Eastburn MBE, is leaving Sound and Music after 10 years in the role.
To honour her departure, we’re raising funds to establish one fully funded bursary each year at the Composition Summer School for the next five years, with a target of £10,000 to reach by 30 June 2023.
Susanna says:
“It has been the most enormous privilege to lead Sound and Music over the past decade as its Chief Executive. The people who create new music, and the dedicated people who support its creation, are essential to contemporary cultural life. As my departure from Sound and Music draws closer, I’ve realised that I don’t want any leaving gifts – what I’d really like is to support young people to attend our Composition Summer School, particularly those who face the greatest barriers to pursuing their love of creating their own music.
So I’m making a donation towards setting up fully funded bursaries. I want this can be one of my lasting legacies to Sound and Music and hope you will join me.”

Summer School is a transformative and remarkable week-long event that has a lasting impact on those young people aged 14-18 who take part. Up to 75 young composers have an intense, supportive and challenging experience. Bursaries are very important in broadening access to Summer School and ensuring that all who are eligible can attend. Your support will make a difference.
