Wilf Rake is a disabled musician, composer and sound artist from the South West. Currently based in Birmingham, his work focuses on generative composition, interactivity, and the democratisation of music. He also co-runs Local Network Records, an artist-led, community-focused record label.
In June 2021 Wilf received one of Sound and Music’s COVID-19 Composer Awards:
“I’m delighted to have been selected for this grant, and am incredibly excited to start work on building an Optimality-Theoretic musical system. Being supported by Sound and Music will allow me to develop my practice in generative music-making through researching, developing (and hopefully sharing) this novel and exciting compositional tool. This grant has provided me with the perfect way to combine my passion for both music and linguistic theory.”
