Dr Soosan Lolavar is a British-Iranian composer whose music draws on ideas from both western and Iranian traditions.

She often devises unique tuning systems for her work with the help of the infinite capabilities of the santoor. She strives to make music which sounds like it continues to resonate in the world long after we have stopped listening.

In 2022 she won the prestigious RPS Composer prize and was partnered with Cheltenham Music Festival. In 2023 she released two albums (all that dust and Nonclassical) and published a book (Routledge) exploring arts-practice as a means for theorising diaspora.

In March 2023, Soosan was selected for the ISCM British Section’s shortlist of composers submitted to the ISCM World New Music Days Festival in South Africa. Find out more here.
