Omar Majeed grew up in Herefordshire. He went to Hereford Cathedral Secondary School, during which time he studied piano, clarinet, and music theory. In 2002 he was one of the Foyle Young Poets. He spent most of the next decade studying: FDA in Photography at Hereford Art College, Graphic Design BA at Kingston Uni. In 2016 he did a belated art foundation, leading to an MA in Fine Art in 2018. Omar spends his time writing, painting, and playing music in various projects, including post-punk band Jazz Mags. He lives in Hereford with his wife and their young daughter.
In July 2021 Omar received one of Sound and Music’s COVID-19 Composer Awards:
“After receiving the Sound and Music COVID-19 Composer award, I was able to fulfil a life’s dream by getting a band together out of my friends, and practicing weekly towards making a recording. The band are all so happy with the album, which we would never have made were it not for the help Sound and Music gave us during a difficult fallow period. Recording at KJM was a great experience and a lot of fun.”
