Musician, composer and singer-songwriter, Germa is a Haitian folk artist known for her ability to write and perform in the style of a storyteller with a strong undercurrent of social consciousness at the heart of her music and a desire to explore themes of the past and the modern day. Germa writes and  performs a tapestry of ethereal vocal and stringed harmonies, influenced by the overlapping identity with cultures, especially so in the Haitian, American and British folk influences that colour her sound. Stirring and Inspiring – she is well known for her unique use of the fiddle as an accompaniment to her vocals, using delicate yet intricate rhythm and harmonies.  Germa has released a selection of songs in her debut album titled Kenbe Fem (Hold Firm), which she will be touring along with new works and traditional tunes in her usual repertoires. Germa is currently working on her second album to be released in the coming year. The album will feature the Senegalese virtuoso Kora player Kadialy Kouyate as well as other new collaborative sounds and approaches that will link to autobiographical themes of roots, bloodlines and ancestral connections.

In July 2021 Germa received one of Sound and Music’s COVID-19 Composer Awards:

I am so excited to be receiving this award! This grant will allow me to work towards completing my second album and allow me to create my best work using the best available resources.”
