British composer//singer, Georgia Denham, currently studies with Andrew Hamilton and Fumiko Miyachi at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where she was awarded The Conservatoire Scholarship Award for Composition. Her work draws on a love of visual arts, anecdotal experiences and working with individuals to create new music. Previously, she has written music for Philip Thomas, Mira Benjamin, Decibel, the New European Ensemble, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and Orkest de Ereprijs.
Her music has been featured in festivals and concert series such as Music We’d Like to Hear and Leeds Lieder Festival. Georgia has an active experimental electronic practice, having previously performed at Supersonic Festival, Ideas of Noise, BEASTdome, KABK Den Haag and Fylkingen Stockholm. Georgia has curated events for Ideas of Noise and Emulsion, focussing on the celebration of new artists and transdisciplinary collaborations.
Georgia is actively involved in new experimental and contemporary music as a singer, studying voice with Susannah Self and Wendy Nieper. Georgia’s fierce commitment to the development of vocal music, coupled with her willingness and versatility, have allowed for fruitful collaborations with other composers. She is a member of Via Nova Vocal Ensemble, a group specialising in contemporary music.
Influencing much of her own creative work, Georgia is interested in the intrinsic relationship between composition and the voice, more recently using electronics to explore this. She has performed her own vocal music at Leeds Lieder Festival, CODA Festival, Snape Maltings and Orgelpark, Amsterdam.
