Carolyn is a well known for her research, composition, performance and teaching of Cumbrian fiddle and border bagpipe tunes. She has played with Lakeland Roots band “Striding Edge” since 1996 and formed community band “The Lakeland Fiddlers” in 2000. She is currently focussing on “Notes from the Green Room”, an on-line archive of Cumbrian tunes played in-situe, including tunes from local archives, and others composed by herself. The purpose is to express the relationship between traditional music, place and landscape, and to reach new audiences in order to expand the community playing, enjoying and participating in this music.
In June 2021 Carolyn received one of Sound and Music’s COVID-19 Composer Awards:
“Receiving this award has encouraged me to believe in my work as a musician as well as helping financially. The Zoom Q2n-4k camera will enable me to make good quality videos and the award will also pay for some technical mentoring and marketing support.”
