Hang is a self-taught, interdisciplinary artist, working in music, video and installation. Hang creates immersive music and visuals for dance, performance and live art. Their work is a rebellion against clean aesthetics and working underneath capitalist structures which demand high output. Creative freedom and expression of those who are marginalised is important to Hang and they seek to facilitate the expressive growth of others through workshops.
In 2021 Hang will participate in the SSW x Counterflows Caregivers Residency, Cove Park’s experimental film and moving image Residency, perform at SPILL Festival with Laura Lulika and attend a residency at Wysing Arts Centre, focusing on accessible broadcasting with the collective Sickness Affinity Group.
In June 2021 Hang received one of Sound and Music’s COVID-19 Composer Awards:
“Being selected for the Covid-19 composers grant is beyond exciting as it contributes to a huge step change on my career and capabilities. Through this award, I will be able to purchase a brand new drum machine/sampler, providing the opportunity to experiment and expand my musical, compositional and financial scope by providing the tools to produce and perform for many years to come. Having the funds to only access second hand, entry-level equipment, purchasing this instrument would not be possible without the support of Sound and Music”
