Hannan Jones is an artist, music maker and programmer of Algerian and Welsh origin. Anchoring herself in themes of identity; exploring the hybridity within language and rhythm, and personal world-building associated with cultural and social migration.
In using sound Hannan not only reclaims her histories, but also explore the space between them, adopting a sampling technique whereby collected fragments of sound, and their abstracted musical values, are reassembled to reflect a personal perspective. Acting to echo both collective and autobiographical experiences of migration, language, chaos and origin.
In June 2021 Hannan received one of Sound and Music’s COVID-19 Composer Awards:
“I am excited and grateful to know that my vision is supported and understood by Sound and Music. As a Covid-19 Composer Awardee, this is an opportunity that allows me to support the trajectory of my project ‘re/tell atlas‘ with depth both personally and professionally on an immediate and long-term basis.”
