Open call for artists to create bold, socially engaged work celebrating Galoshans’ creativity, culture, and local traditions.
As part of the Multi-Year Funding from Creative Scotland, RIG Arts is offering artist residencies (x2) as part of the Galoshans Festival 2026.
Through a sustained programme of socially engaged residencies, RIG Arts will build upon the strong foundation and momentum established through years of community-focused delivery across Inverclyde.
Artists will develop new work in response to the theme of Galoshans. Rooted in traditions of storytelling, performance, and seasonal celebration, this residency offers a platform to explore creative practice within a contemporary community context while engaging with local audiences.
The residency is designed to offer an artist the opportunity to develop their own practice through the creation of new work, while making meaningful community connections, particularly with groups who may face barriers to accessing the arts.
We welcome applications from artists working across all disciplines, including (but not limited to): performance, sculpture, installation, walkabout art, and socially engaged or experimental practices. We invite proposals for socially engaged work, outlining artistic approach, objectives, and potential impact. Strong consideration will be given to artists demonstrating a commitment to sustainability and equality.
Timescale:
The residency will take place from August – October 2026 (8 weeks, flexible), culminating in a public outcome as part of the Galoshans Festival (17th – 31st October 2026).
