To celebrate the winners of this year’s Seed Award, we caught up with all the selected artists and composers for a quick chat.
Here, we speak to Giacomo Fargion.
Can you tell us about your musical influences?
My music at the moment focuses on a broad and idiosyncratic array of genres, sources and strategies, often presented within a deconstructed sound collage. There is little invitation for the listener to relax at any point. I enjoy spontaneity and juxtaposition within the sounds used. I like exploring the tension between softness and aggression, energy and playfulness. Some influences include Stockhausen, Cage, Giant Claw, Noah Creshevsky and Mark Fell. Stockhausen’s approaches to the organization of sound I find inspiring. I find ‘moment form’ relevant to my work as it often doesn’t result in a directed narrative curve. I’m often thinking in terms of groups or moments of sound, either static, or dynamic, clear, or complex. I am interested in structure and form as an integral aspect of composition and live performance.
What are you working on at the moment?
At the moment I’m working on a live set built in Max Msp. I’m also training AI to write me some love songs…
My sister and I (aka The Fargions), are currently recording our ‘Bass Songs’ piece, where we both play bass guitars (badly!) and sing a set of songs in which the only lyrics are “Au revoir Monsieur/Madame”.
Giacomo’s journey is made possible with the generous support of individuals like you. There are many ways to get involved and every donation really does make a difference.
