My music is often inspired by text; from poetry and literature to twitter feeds and graffiti. Current projects include a collaboration with Lotte Betts-Dean exploring settings of poetry by Thomas Hardy and a spin-off project with the Ligeti Quartet which responds to Hardy’s poem ‘Afterwards’. My music has been broadcast on UK radio (including BBC Radio 3) and performed across the UK as well as in the US and Canada. I am a recipient of the Paul Hamlyn Award for Artists 2020 and an LSO Soundhub Associate Composer.
In April 2022 Arthur received one of Sound and Music’s Covid-19 Composer Awards:
“This award will allow me to start work on a dance project I’ve been thinking about for years. Stage works need research and development and this injection of funds will allow me to work with a choreographer and dancers and start to build the piece. This is an important new musical direction for me and I’m so glad that I can start experimenting!”
