To celebrate the winners of this year’s Seed Award, we caught up with all the selected artists and composers for a quick chat.

Here, we speak to Lewis Daniel. Lewis is a Saxophonist/Singer & Composer from South London. Lewis has worked creatively over the last few years as an arranger/session musician for many artists including The House Gospel Choir, Boadi, The Last Dinosaur, Rachel Kerr and Tom Grennan. His career has seen him perform at venues including the West Holts Stage at Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds Festivals, Ronnie Scott’s, opening for Take 6, and The 02 Arena.

Can you tell us about your musical influences?

My music is based in Jazz but I’m influenced by soul, Rnb, Alt rock, Gospel, hip- hop, electronic styles, classical. Basically anything I have the pleasure of playing or listening to gets absorbed and comes out in my music

What are you working on at the moment?

Currently I am working on my next body of work called Defective Disk which is a concept jazz album exploring the journey of finding ourselves and realising although we might think we are defective in some way there actually isn’t anything wrong with us really. We all have flaws and faults and that’s ok because we are human. It’s set to a backdrop of the world of video games and computing so a lot of references from that world will be drawn upon.
